Mother's Day morning on Sun Mountain

In celebration of Mother's Day, we spent our morning doing our human mama's very favorite activity - hiking! She loves being outside as much as we do, so we took advantage of the beautiful, clear spring morning, and headed up Sun Mountain before the afternoon winds.

Sun Mountain is an awesome and quick hike, because even though it is a short roundtrip hike (less than 3 miles) you gain over 700 feet of elevation and get to admire 360 degree views from the top!

Today, we headed up a west-facing trail. It's a much easier hike for little Rosie's stub legs. There were only a few boulders near the top that she needed help over. Otherwise, she trucked up the hill all by herself! What a trooper!

We saw lots of wildflowers on the trail. The desert, especially after a good rain, comes alive with glorious, bright colors from the cacti and yucca plants. The trail definitely looked totally different from our last trip after a huge snowstorm.

When we arrived at the top, we let lil sis rest her legs and enjoyed the beautiful views of Santa Fe. As we had beat the notorious spring winds, the visibility from the top was stunning! You could see far in the distance to neighboring mountain ranges and valleys.

What a wonderful way to celebrate Mother's Day!
